Tips to keep your skin naturally healthy this summer

Tips to keep your skin naturally healthy this summer

The weather is starting to warm up and we’re getting a real taste of the lovely sunshine summer is set to bring! Now’s the time to start digging out your summer wardrobe (if you haven’t already) and also thinking about switching up your skincare routine too.

In summer, our skin can become more oily, exposure to sun can cause damage and air conditioning can leave it feeling parched.

Here are a few things you can do to keep your skin naturally healthy this summer:

Cleanse

This is something you should do all the time, however in summer, it’s more important than ever. The warmer weather can lead to blocked pores thanks to increased perspiration, which in turn can lead to breakouts. Try adopting a strict cleansing routine to remove any dirt and oil build-up every morning and night, making sure you exfoliate at least once a week too. This will remove any dead skin cells and polish your skin, allowing any nourishing creams and lotions you apply to soak in properly.

Don’t forget about the rest of your body too - use a body scrub regularly and follow-up with a nourishing body butter to keep your skin super soft and supple. You’ll soon have that summer glow!

If you have sensitive skin, try choosing cleansing products that are 100% natural and contain ingredients such as soothing Aloe Vera, nourishing Avocado and softening Shea Butter. Also, when choosing scrubs, pay careful attention to the packaging. Avoid scrubs that contain plastic microbeads as these can pollute our waterways and leach into the food chain. Bamboo Powder is an effective natural alternative, this is what we use in our Skin Brightening Exfoliator to help gently polish your skin and lift away impurities.

Hydrate

Remember to stay hydrated throughout the day and your skin will thank you for it! Drinking approximately eight glasses of water every day will help to flush out any toxins from your system and deliver essential nutrients to your skin. Don’t forget, all liquids count and if you’re really struggling, try carrying a bottle of water with you throughout the day, taking regular sips.

Protect

When the weather is nice, we're generally out and about more enjoying the sunshine. During summer, when the sun is at its most powerful, you should ensure your skincare and beauty regime contains products that provide protection from harmful UVA rays. Our Day & Night Cream contains Red Algae, which acts as a natural protector against daily UVA damage.

You should also make sure your skincare routine contains plenty of antioxidants to protect your skin from daily pollution exposure, as this can lead to premature ageing, dryness and a dull complexion. Use an Antioxidant Facial Oil to help repair any damage from pollution particles and restore your skin's defense barrier. Ours contains a powerful blend of natural oils including Cranberry, Rosehip and Sacha Inchi to protect your skin from the elements.

Repair

Whether your skin has any visible damage or not, it’s essential that you replenish any lost moisture and help your skin to repair on a daily basis during summer. After cleansing, apply a rejuvenating serum or oil that will soak into the deep layers of your skin and help to push new skin cells to the surface. Rosehip Oil is one of the most effective plant oils for repair and restoration, and can even help to soothe sun burnt skin. It doesn’t contain any nasties, so you can rest assured it can be used on even the most sensitive skin types.

Top tip: store your facial oil in the fridge during summer to give your face a cool, refreshing treat!
